Tomia Island Adventures

After crashing a wedding with Yamin and Harry – hiking through the jungle to an “ancient fortress” – and stopping to take photos with some cool old bapak – Mara, Holly, Will and I do battle with some kids on our way to the magical beach (with waves!). Haha, good times.

The Boat Ride to Tomia

We took to the rough seas on our way to Tomia.  Just watching this makes me seasick.  Lynn was clinging to the window, singing amazing grace – everyone else was just trying to stay upright while praying to their God(s) of choice.  Luckily we had Christians, Muslims, a Buddhist and a Hindu on board – so most of the Gods were covered – maybe that’s why we made it there alive.

Cultural Performance at SMA Babussalam

SMA Babussalam is an Islamic Boarding School on Wangi-Wangi island, Wakatobi, Indonesia.  Everything was going great, until we realised that there was no way of playing the music for our cultural performance.  So we had to improvise – Lynn grabbed the guitar, Mara grabbed the microphone, and together they rocked Babussalam with the much loved Indo-classic, “Sempurna”.

A Family Picnic (Patuno, Wangi-Wangi)

Here is a day at the beach with our host families (Lynn, Zi, Eric and Daniel).  We eat coconuts, fish and caswami.  Then we go swimming, catch some fish, and have a good time.

Patuno Kids Singing Sempurna on the Beach

Lynn plays her favourite song, yet again.  This time for the kids of Patuno.  Everyone has a nice sing-a-long at the beach.
